Hats Hats Hats

THE HAT:

I started knitting hats because I tried to knit a pair of socks.  The needles are bigger, there are no heels to turn and I don't have to knit two things that match.  Perfect.  I can just knit to knit.  Knitting is one of my ways of staying sane.  In the last few years I've made a lot of these hats.

I've also sold a lot of them.  People love these happy little hats.  Maybe you do, too.  Maybe you would like one.  Students who buy a hat say they paint better when they wear them in the studio.  People in search of love have great success when they wear one of these hats.  And those of us just wanting to bring a little silliness to daily life delight in being smiled at when wearing a little yurt on our head.

Below is a gallery of hats.  They are samples to give you an idea of possible color combinations.  Take a look at them.  There is one hat pattern and I have it com- mitted to memory.  What I love is how the colors and textures go together and that is what makes each hat uniquely individual.

I have a big stash of yarn and choose the hat colors according to what color is calling me in the moment.  It might be wool or an acrylic blend.  It might be a solid color or multi-colored.  It might be smooth or have lots of great little nubby things woven into it.  I knit with that color until another color calls me.

Then there is the fringe.  What a great invention!  They didn't have this stuff when my grandma taught me to knit.  I love fringe.  I use short fringe, long fringe, solid-colored fringe, multi-colored fringe, wormy-like fringe, fuzzy fringe, light-colored fringe, dark fringe, sparkly fringe and more.  I believe this is the stuff that gives the hat its special personality.

So, are you ready for your very own hat?
